No Wake Zone 2024
The healing struggle can be real. I was so surprised when my friend Kristie commissioned me to paint this No Wake Zone Mermaid. For her, sleeping can be like a monster. You see her body has overcome cancer, surgeries, a transplant, more surgeries, hospital stays, being hooked to an IV constantly for nourishment and hydration. And sleep is a natural healer too. Even if erratic. So, I suppose this painting really serves a purpose. As much as I didn't want to admit it, it was also my struggle. You see, I hadn't painted anything in a very long while. The purpose for us both was healing, because you see, when that painting was hung above her bed, it helped to bring her healing sleep. For me it also brought healing. The planning, the prepping, the paint strokes and being "in the zone". You see, we are Sisters in Christ. We help each other heal.
