Local Places of Interest 2021

Frenchy's Rockaway Grill is probably one of my favorite local hangouts. Back in the day it probably shaped my life in the best possible way.  I met my future husband there. And they have a great menu, and the restaurant is right on Clearwater Beach. Plan to be sitting and waiting awhile, this place is always, still, hopping.

One of our favorite beach haunts is the Palm Pavilion on Clearwater Beach.  After a ride on the local trolley from home to the beaches with family or friends, we take a nice walk on the sugar sand beach, a swim in the Gulf of Mexico, maybe a t-shirt shop visit, but we always end up on a stool bellied up to the bar and listening to live music. We always meet new friends there....pull up a stool!

The Crystal Beach Post Office is another amusing place.  For a small building, it has a stunning mural on the side that reflects how bright this little community is. No hustle-bustle here, they are only open from 10am to noon, and 2pm to 4pm daily. Sounds about right to me!

As part of our usual drives through our local parks along the coast, this desolate sight at Fred Howard Park in Tarpon Springs caught my eye. A lifeguard station, all buttoned up, and literally no one hanging out on this beautiful day.  It is part of the 2020 plague that fell upon many of us. Just thankful that the desolation did not last long, and people did no abandon the beaches for very long.

Our dear friend Hugh from Maine was unable to make it to Florida this past spring as is his usual migration to get out from under the cold of the north.  This painting was recreated from a photo taken at Clearwater Beach from a couple years past. We hope to remind him of his past ventures, and hopefully his ventures to come!
