Key West - A Place in my Heart 2022

Key West will always hold a place in my heart! First visited there as a young teen in the 1960's when it was just another dirty town. The old architecture intrigued me, the beautiful sunsets captured my senses. As I got older, in the early seventies, it was a mystical place to adventure, and see the sights--the Southernmost Point, East Martello Tower, The La Concha Hotel, Fast Buck Freddie's, and of course Sloppy Joe's Bar for fun and music! In the 1980's moved there with my first husband and my two sons into Navy housing. By then the big restoration was taking place, and a lot of new developments. I was so fortunate to get a great job as a legal secretary to Michael Halpern, my greatest mentor! The fun part was that he was part owner in Sloppy Joe's Bar, and our office was upstairs, right next door! That beautiful blue and white building with a grand view of bustling Duval Street! I stayed there for almost eight years. Finally after 28 years, and dabbling at painting in retirement for five years, I decided I had to keep a slice of those days in my heart! I hope you enjoy this painting, the first of my paintings that I actually had framed. There are so many people that have a piece of Key West in their heart, hope you have some fond memories there too. And by the way, that lady peering out the window on the second floor is me, watching all the action from my office window!
